Gets the job doneMar 02, 2010 I've been using these for 5 years (the Ultra 1250 MPR) and haven't had an issue. I change them once every 4 months (instead of every 3 months) based on a visual inspection. I don't know if it restricts air flow or not, but my furnace & A/C (same blower for both) have worked fine for 5 years so I'm not going to complain.
Cheapest way to get the best filters!Feb 09, 2010 These are great filters and have noticeably reduced the dust in my house. Buying them in 6-packs from Amazon is the cheapest way that I have found to buy these!

Filtrete 20x20 Furnace filtersFeb 02, 2010 Good pricing on the 6-pack of 3M Filtrete 1250 MPR Ultra Allergen Reduction furnace filters. However, UPS managed to crush the corners on one side during shipment.

Air in your home is more polluted than the air outside.Jan 04, 2010 Particles Per Million of the air in your house is much higher than the air outside. So get a filter that will reduce that significantly.
I have been using these filters for about a year now. We have a long haired dog that sheds constantly and has bad dander. Along with that there are 5 of us living in a not so large home. This filter performs so well, I hardly ever sneeze anymore. Prior to this I used generic 3 month fiberglass filters. They performed what I thought as well, however hardly ever lasted 3 months, more like a month, and I used to wake up every morning sneezing for 10 minutes or more. I found these at a local hardware store and tried them out. By the end of the 3 months the filter is BLACK and weighs noticeably more than a new one. I dont sneeze any more in the morning.
I recommend getting these from Amazon because the price per 6 is about the same as 4.5 at the hardware store. Six will also last you over a year unless you smoke or have more dusty environment. For general use the filter should last 3 months easily.
Pros:
>> Cleaner air
>> Easy installation
>> Cost per on amazon by far the cheapest
Cons:
<< Seem more expensive than generic, but they last longer and perform better, so much better bang for the buck.
Overall this is a fantastic filter for your AC/Furnace.
Thanks for reading my review.

Too high a restriction, the house got cold...Jan 03, 2010 I found this Amazon product page while looking for information on furnace problems and this filter.
We've been using the red "micro" Filtrete filters for years. This was our first try with the purple "Ultra" filters. I tried one in December, and removed it today (January 3, 2010).
It cut our heating ability by at least 40%!
With the red Filtrete, we have at least 92 degrees of heating ability: if we set the thermostat at 72, the house maintains 72, even when the outside "ambient" temperature (the average of the day's low and high) is -20 degrees F.
Yesterday and today, we lost the ability to maintain temperature. On a day with an average temperature of 10 degrees F (low of 5, high of 15) the house dropped to 65 degrees. So, instead of being able to heat the house to at least 90 degrees above the outside temperature, we are down to only 55 degrees.
The FAQ on the 3M site glosses over this problem.
"Do I have to worry about restricted airflow with Filtrete filters?
Filtrete filters are designed to operate in most residential furnaces and air conditioning systems. If a Filtrete filter remains in use longer than three months, it may begin to restrict airflow or cause the system to malfunction. It also could restrict airflow in some higher efficiency/air conditioning systems. In this case, change the filter more frequently."
Bull! Our furnace isn't "high efficiency", it's an older 125000 BTU Singer, with a 160 degree limiter on the heat exchanger. A 3 or 4 week (not month) old purple "Ultra" choked the furnace, but when I put the 2 month old red "Micro" back in, the temperature came right back up!
