 Good SoundtrackAug 07, 2005
This was a cool soundtrack but it had almost nothing with Mike Myers in it. That was the only dissappointment. Other than that this is a great soundtrack with some super-hits and great songs.

As is often the case with movie soundtracks, this CD offers some really good tracks alongside some humdrum and rather poor ones. Madonna's Beautiful Stranger is the cream of the crop; it's one of the better songs Madonna has put out in recent years, in my opinion. The live version of The Who's My Generation fits the Austin Powers theme nicely and plays very well on the album. Lenny Kravitz' rocking remake of American Woman is another great track that many folks will be quite familiar with already from its heavy radio play. I was very happy to see Dr. Evil's Just the Two of Us make its way onto the album, as it's a crowd-pleasing, memorable party of the movie. I also rather like, in a weird sort of way, The Lucy Nation's song Alright; it has an unusual sound and style that distinguishes it from its peers on this CD. Unfortunately, the better tracks stop here. Some of these songs are remakes of classic songs, and I have to question why these remakes were even made. R.E.M.'s cover of Draggin' the Line is OK, but it differs very little from the original recording. Melanie G (aka Scary Spice) provides a completely unnecessary remake in the form of her cover of Cameo's funky tour de force Word Up; that great song is best left in the capable hands (and voice) of Cameo's Larry Blackmon. Big Blue Missile (with Scott Weiland) does a pretty mediocre job covering another classic song, Time of the Season; apparently, it wasn't the time of the season for all the singers to actually hit the right notes. Buggin' is an interesting track from The Flamingo Lips, but I can't decide whether I actually like the song or not. Green Day fans shouldn't get overly excited at the sight of the band's contribution here, as Espionage features no singing whatsoever. I'm still trying to figure out why Burt Bacharach is such an integral part of Austin Powers as I'm not naturally drawn to his music, but his collaboration with Elvis Costello on the all-too-familiar I'll Never Fall in Love Again isn't all that bad. The album ends on a fun note, with Quincy Jones' souped-up version of the basic Austin Powers theme music. All in all, while the album has its good points, it is by no means a must-have. Were it not for Madonna's Beautiful Stranger, I doubt I would have bought the CD. Still, it's fun to listen to the whole thing every so often.

Buy it if you only like the backround theam music,Aug 05, 2002
I brought this CD at Chrismas 99 about the time wear Austn Powers was realsed,, There is a few classic's songs on it like Madona's hit Bueataful Stranger witch become quite popular outside he movie
Lenny Kravis's American Women- Despite what many know the song was realsed befor the movie was theaticly realsed witch made it popular........... After you lisen to it a few times your find yourself most likely lisening to those 2 songs mostly and maybe 1 or 2 other songs on there,,,,,
and did I menchin that it has Dr.Evial's verisenof "Just the two of us" on it.....
All in all if your only after the CD to get only like 1 or 2 songs on it go to like Kazza or WInMX and download theam off there dont waste your money on the CD
 A good collection of songs and artistsOct 03, 2001
This album has a real good collection of songs spanning artists as diverse as Madonna, r.e.m., Green Day, Burt Bacharach, Elvis Costello, and Quincy Jones and his Orchestra, just to name a few. We also get a 60's track from The Who. And of course there is the fun track by Dr Evil "Just the two of us". The booklet includes a few photos from the movie. On the whole, this is one soundtrack that works.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged MeAug 10, 2000
This soundtrack to the outrageously funny movie, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, is one of the best that I own and have ever listened to. From what I have heard, the main idea to this soundtrack was to sound '60s-ish with a '90s touch. Mission accomplished! My favorite track on this soundtrack is by the one and only, Madonna! Beautiful Stranger rocks! Madonna's lyrics are so powerful and convincing. I just love this song. It definitely deserved the Grammy award for Best Song For A Soundtrack. I would have to say that my second favorite song on this soundtrack is Alright by The Lucy Nation. I had had this soundtrack for a long time before I found this song. Alright is such a sad and powerful song. I can listen to it over and over and over and never get sick or tired of it. But I must say that I think this song belongs on the Magnolia soundtrack (not a bad thing) and I say that because it's sad in a way and would fit with the Aimee Mann songs on Magnolia. American Woman by Lenny Kravitz has been called bad. I must greatly disagree with them because I think it's a great song. The guitars in this song are very amazing. The other song I liked from this soundtrack is a song that was also put down greatly. It's Word Up by Scary Spice. I think it's a really cool club song. I wish it got some radio attention. If you couldn't tell from the rest of my review that I like this soundtrack a lot and that you should buy it, maybe you should look more carefully. You SHOULD definitely buy this soundtrack because it rocks!
