Amazon.com Product Description View larger. | Most manufacturers seem to be using lithium-ion battery technology to create lighter versions of existing cordless tools, or high-voltage tools that would have been too heavy for use with older battery technologies. Bosch however, seems to have also used the opportunities presented by lithium ion to dream up tools that have never even existed. Last year, they scored big hits with the PS-20 Pocket Driver and I-driver, which redefined ideas about drills and screwdrivers at the same time. This year, they've extended that out-of-the-box thinking to impact drivers, with the Litheon "Impactor", and it is another jaw-dropper. Impact drivers are smaller and lighter than cordless drills, but because they have a simple hammering function and are geared specifically to spin fast, they produce about three times the torque of a drill. This means an impact driver will put in screws, bolts, and other fasteners much faster than a drill would (especially in sheet metal). They can drill holes, too. What they won't do is drill holes bigger than 1/2 inch, but they'll handle just about any job a homeowner or contractor would do around the house. In size and feel, the Impactor is very much like the Pocket Driver. It's small and light enough to fit into a drawer. Hitched to your belt, you could carry it around all day and barely notice the weight, although it looks so cool, you're definitely going to want to keep taking it out. With the three LED lights on the front, Bosch has not only made sure this thing doubles practically as a spare flashlight, they've really solidified the space-age ray gun look, making the Impactor pretty hard not to pull it out just to play with. With the hammer action on top of the respectable 10.8 volts of power however, this can do even more than the Pocket Driver could. We used it to drive screws through sheet metal and 3/8-inch bolts into pine. It wasn't as fast as 14.4- or 18-volt models, but it got the job done well enough to make this a truly all-purpose tool The lithium ion batteries also have the advantage of staying charged when they are not used, which makes them great for tools that get left in drawers for long periods of time between uses. --Tod Harrick From the Manufacturer |

Best in terms of size and classAug 20, 2008 For the size and weight, this is the most powerful drill I've ever used. I have been using it to drive 3 inch deck screws into studs, as well as around-the-house chores such as hanging doors. The advantage of this drill is that you can just carry this compact drill around and accomplish most DIY tasks with it. I've framed-out an entire bathroom with this drill. I've even used it to drill out 1" holes in studs.
The light comes in handy, especially in dark corners so that you don't have to wear a silly headlight or have a friend hold up a flashlight.
Some people have been comparing this drill to the Makita 18v driver, and that's just silly. That's like saying an inline-4 engine can't hang with a V-8! It's not comparing apples to apples. Of course the 18v driver would have more torque. Plus, that huge base battery on the Makita makes it too unwieldy for tight spaces.
If you were to buy 1 cordless drill to have around the house, then this is it.
impactorAug 17, 2008 great tool , great size, could use little more power, but all in all it's hard to beat. -Brett.
A Great driverAug 09, 2008 Own a sailboat and this has become my onboard tool. Fits into tight spaces where normal drills can't go. Great tool.

Great little packageAug 08, 2008 This drill is impressive. Very surprised at how much power this thing has. As soon as you pick this up you can feel the quality in respect to: the plastic used on the body, grips, and balance of tool. Three LED Light system is very bright and a nice touch. The noise will get to you if using it in a repetitious manner. If driving long screws into say pressure treated lumber like building a deck you will go through the batteries fairly quickly. Other than that HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Almost perfectAug 01, 2008 Lightweight, high torque, long battery life, and great speed control. Could only improve if they magnetized the chuck so that you could throw in a non-indented bit in a pinch.
