He is the King!Oct 02, 2008 Here is the King at his best. The subtitle "30 #1 HITS" is slightly misleading, because you get the bonus track of "A Little Less Conversation." I can't imagine life without "Don't Be Cruel," "It's Now or Never," "Return to Sender," "Suspicious Minds" and "Burning Love"! These are a few of my favorite Elvis songs. Your favorites will be on this CD too! A must have for loyal fans of the King!
Great but a bit confusingOct 02, 2008 The 30 #1 singles on this CD were #1 in either the U.S. the U.K or both.
I understand, as the liner notes explain, that they stuck strictly to the "Pop" chart #1 singles and didn't attempt to included songs that hit #1 on the U.S. Country charts and/or R&B charts as it would exceed a single disc format.
Nevertheless, there is one very big #1 Elvis "Pop" single in the U.S. that is not on this set but is saved for the follow up CD "2nd to None".
The song is "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You"
It is on the the "Number Ones" CD from 1987.
On the "Top Ten Hits" cd from 1987 it shows the songs highest chart peak as # 1 with the month and year.
I understand that they may have had to sacrafice at least one #1 single for this 30 song set, but seeing as how "Wooden Heart" which was #1 in the U.K. but not even a hit of any kind in the U.S., is on this set, it seems that "Wooden Heart" could have been left off and saved for 2nd to None instead of "I want you, I need you, I love you" which was #1 in the U.S. and and # 14 in the U.K.
Then when you consider that "Burning Love" was not #1 in the U.K. and actually a #2 song in the U.S. according to Billboard but makes this set because it hit # 1 in the U.S. on the Cash Box chart, then it is even more unfair as "I want you , I need you, I love you", actually hit # 1 on Billborad.
I understand that "Burning Love" adds more weight to the 70's songs on the set and I'm not assuming that Billboard is better than Cash Box but every other #1 U.S. song on this set was #1 on Billboard and RCA does not include "Burning Love" on the "Number Ones" cd form '87 and on "The Top Ten Hits" CD from '87 they list it as #2.
Still a great collection, but the fact remains that of Elvis Presley's five #1 songs in the U.S. in 1956, one of them is not on this collection.
Can't go wrongOct 01, 2008 Can't go wrong with this CD. Has some of the great Elvis classics that everyone loves and recognizes. Can't say much more than that.
Bob WSep 30, 2008 Elvis's 30 #1 hits is a great buy. The sounds are very good quality. You will not be disappointed.
All Shook UP!!!Sep 10, 2008 This was my first Elvis Presley CD and I became an immediate fan. Elvis sounds great. My brother and I have Elvis Presley imitation contests all the time.(Everyone is sorry I purchased the CD because I play it constantly. But it hasn't skipped once yet.) Funny, the girls are still crazy about Elvis even though he's been dead for over 30 years!
