Description:
In 1993, when Shaggy successfully reworked the Prince Buster ska classic "Oh Carolina," he was on the cusp of creating a hot, new ska/pop fusion. Unfortunately, he opted to become a pop-reggae novelty act like Snow. Shaggy's fourth album certainly won't win over new fans or appeal to reggae purists and Capleton enthusiasts, but that's fine by him. While there are no immediate club anthems in the "Boombastic" or "Oh Carolina" vein, Shaggy's coarse vocal delivery shines on the sweet, Latin-music-inspired "Chica Bonita." Likewise, "Not Fair"--where he boasts that he'll take a woman "to the clouds without going downtown"--has Hit Single written all over it. On the downside, Shaggy's rap-reggae flow doesn't match the production values of the R&B production duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. On "Lonely Lover," Shaggy and Next's T-Lo bastardize a classic Main Ingredient song, while on "Dance and Shout," he distorts the Michael Jackson legacy by sampling "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)." --Dalton Higgins

HOT!Aug 25, 2008 He has quite the way with words, thanks to his Jamaican roots. His voice is incredibly sexy (I don't care what other negative reviews say). The beats are fun and easy to move to. It's pop, it's commercial, but it's wonderful!
Shaggy ShinesJul 24, 2007 This is a great rap/reggae CD from Shaggy. He's a rapper, but he delivers his raps in a kind of reggae style. The effect is cool; the flow is solid. I can put this CD in my player and just let it go. The listener won't be tempted to hit the skip button. No fill on this one. The favs:
Angel
Freaky Girl
It Wasn't Me
Why Me Lord
Outstanding albumMar 30, 2007 Even though I had only recognized a few of the songs before I purchased it, I found the entire album to be enjoyable. I purchased 4 cds at the same time and this is the one that plays constantly in my car.
