Inspired by the invitation to the All Tomorrow's Parties "Don't Look Back" event, where bands convened to play one of their classic albums in its entirety, and the Melvins did indeed play "Houdini" (with Trevor Dunn on bass this time). Unfortunately they didn't record those 2 shows but did re-enact and record the entire mess again in SoCal. It was an invitation-only show, so for those of us not "on the list," here's the document. Mind-boggling.

Amazing.Dec 18, 2006 This CD is amazing. Houdini is one of my favorite albums ever and this CD adds a live element despite the absence of crowd sounds. Trevor Dunn is also a great bassist.

Rock and rollMay 20, 2006 In my country Melvins are the best band. Live performances are better than most bands out there. Why don't more people think so? Some rock fans seem to discard Melvins because of their talent. Listen to Houdini and become educated to the new ways of music revealed. That was in history and it was to be so futuristic. There is a grand scale to the course of their careers. Enough of hating, where is love for Melvins?

Once again, The Melvins!May 20, 2006 Anticipation is what these guys do best. Whether you're experiencing an immense buildup to an uncharted catharsis in one of their songs or you're just waiting on their next album to drop (never a long wait, mind you), anticipation is key to what they do. You never know what is going to happen. This album is yet another good example of the Melvins phenomenon. You think you know what's going to happen--hell, they spell it out for you, but you're incorrect. I thought this would be a good album but I had no idea it would be as good as it is. It simply makes me feel like I did when I first heard the Houdini record. That's just not possible. There you have it.

a blast from the past...May 17, 2006 back in 1993, Houdini was the album that first got me interested in the Melvins. I had heard of them before, but I was never familiar with their music until this album came out. from the first song on Houdini, I was hooked. it made me understand that you can play noisy heavy rock, but still have an air of weirdness & mystery, and at the same time still retain a primitive simplicity. unfortunately, the Melvins were not meant to be on a major label, but fortunately for them, the big grunge boom of the early 90's worked in their favor, briefly bringing their music to larger masses, even if for only a few years. its nice to know that they still recognize their past achievements and how important they were (and still are) by releasing this live album. its crazy to think that Houdini came out 13 years ago. maybe this live album will encourage newer Melvins fans to delve deeper into their back catalog to experience what made them great back in the day.
