Island Records' newest band Jet Black Stare blasts their way onto Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock radio with their first single "Ready To Roll," in advance of their debut album, IN THIS LIFE, in stores July 15th.
Underscoring the pre-release excitement already being generated by Jet Black Stare's "Ready To Roll," the song and another JBS track, "It's Over," were tapped for the 15-song soundtrack of EA Sports' sales phenom NASCAR 09 video game, set for June 11th release in PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 formats. In addition, "Ready To Roll" has been chosen as the official theme for this year's 21st annual WWE Summerslam pay-per-view event - always one of the wrestling year's biggest ppv draws - originating in 2008 from Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 17th.
In the midst of all this activity, Jet Black Stare will wrap up a cross-country tour of their native Canada next week with State Of Shock and Econoline Crush. After a one-week break, it's back on the road in Texas, for shows with Saving Abel (five cities); then with Shinedown and EndeverAfter (three cities). Please see all tour dates below.
Jet Black Stare - singer/songwriter Rod Black, guitarists Flip and Dave Muselman, bassist Shane Hayes, and drummer Dan Swinimer - were formed last year when Vancouver rock band veteran Black hooked up with songwriter/producer Jeff Johnson and the songs just started flying, more than enough to fill up IN THIS LIFE.
One of them, "I'm Breathing," is rooted in Black's skirmish with death after a near-fatal car crash at age 19 as a "flat-line patient," actually pronounced dead. "But," he says, "the next day I woke up! The doctors and nurses were astonished. Four hours later I walked out of the hospital and went to work." What he realized after that was essentially his purpose in life, "to do music, and to reach as many people as I can, and hopefully, bring a positive message."

Top 10 CD of 2008Nov 23, 2008 I found that several of the tracks are fresh against the rock legends who've released work in 2008. Make no mistake, Jet Black Stare will not find a place in your collection beside "Black Ice" or "Chinese Democracy." But, this has great flow through the album. By the time you've gotten over the popular Ready to Roll move into I'm Breathing, which is a song that will hold its on with anything on the Hinder or Nickelback albums.
Comparing the work across the board to Rev Theory, Shinedown, Metallica, Disturbed, Seether, and 3 Doors Down? I would relate this as best to a shining mix of Setther and 3 Doors Down. The song do not hit you with the clarity of 3 Doors Down. But, the rockstar aspirations are clear in this album of range. Fly has a catchy feel and makes you wonder how powerful it might be when played acoustically. Poster Princess holds it's own with class and without any of the Nickelback or Buck Cherry vulgarity. Its a respectable track which might not be played in over 18 establishments because its driven by a witty layout you could sing to a female without being labeled a jerk.
Go to JBS's homepage and their MSpace music player and hear some tracks if you need to make up your mind. Make this one a piece of your collection and don't feel like a schmuck when their follow-up album hits and you're none the wiser on "In This Life." Buy it.
Great Songwriting and productionOct 29, 2008 This is the best rock CD I have heard in a long while. The songs are very well written with great hooks and the lyrics have intellectual content which is a contrast to most bands today. I really like the heavy rock track blended with something you can play without your significant other yelling to turn it down. Great blend of rock...you won't be disappointed. BUY IT!
Average CD from an Average BandOct 27, 2008 Every once in a while I will take a chance and spend my hard earned dollars on a new band. I thought the band Jet Black Stare had a cool name, and I like the song "Ready to Roll" which I heard on myspace. I was hoping for more of the same on "In This Life".
Sadly, this is the hardest song on the CD, and the rest of this disc is filled with average sounding bland modern rock.
There are better CD's out there for you spend your money on, especially if you are into the modern rock scene. Check out the new Rev Theory CD, or Theory of a Deadman disc. You will get more bang for your buck with either one of these CD's.

Great New Rock Album!!!Sep 20, 2008 This is one of the best new rock albums I've heard. There have been several new bands come out recently, and this is one of the best. They have a great variety of loud, heavy songs, and a few slower rock songs. A great album for a rock fan's music collection.
Blatant thieverySep 17, 2008 The fourth track of this CD, "Every Moment," is a blatant ripoff of "Afterglow" by Closure. I mean, every aspect of it ... the baseline, even the meter. These guys just kept the exact same musical arrangements but changed the words. Did you ever wonder what became of those kids in high school who'd copy some obscure short story word-for-word for their English paper, and then rely on the stupidity of their teachers? Well, wonder no more: Jet Black Stare is what becomes of them.
The rest of this album might not be bad, but I can't get past something like this. How do I know all of the rest of the tracks on the CD aren't just another ripoff of some other song that I've never heard before? In fact, how do I know that they didn't steal the name "Jet Black Stare" from an even better band? I think TVT records would be very interested that these guys are ripping off one of their artists. Better yet, Closure would be interested, too ... better hope you guys don't wind up playing the same bar circuit with them, JBS.
