It's Dynamite!!!Aug 15, 2008 Jermaine Jackson's Arista records debut found him headed in a sleek poppier musical direction, much like his more famous brother was headed. #1 dance hit "Tell me I'm not dreaming" even featured brother Michael duetting with Jermaine. A danceable slice of synthesized Punk/Pop.
"Come to me" is a very funky R&B song in a similar mould as Michael's hits like "Don't stop till you get enough" or "Wanna be startin' something". "Dynamite" is pure Hi energy/Pop (similar in tempo to the Pointer Sister's "I'm so excited"), while "Some things are private" and the charming "Sweetest sweetest" are rock inflected.
The chugging midtempo duet "Take good care of my heart" featured some songstress named Whitney Houston (Hmm, I wonder what became of her).
For ballads, we get the absolutely gorgeous "Do what you do" (a UK #2 hit) and the tender yet passionate piano ballad "Oh mother", an ode to his mother. Rounding things out is the awful "Escape from the planet of the ant men" which featured his brothers and reminds one of what the "skip" button was invented for.
A brilliant album! Shame the CD liner notes are rather skimpy.
Loved It!Jul 08, 2008 I purchased this CD for one song, "Come To Me." I love the song so much, it is worth buying the while CD. Thanks for having it available.

Nice, but not his best work.Jan 25, 2007 This 1984 release was marketed as a straight out pop release, and there's nothing wrong with that. I quite enjoyed this CD, but I wouldn't say it was an essential purchase. For me, Jermaine early releases for Motown happens to be his best work, but often got lost in the mix. Anyway back to this release. I purchased this mainly for the duet with brother Michael (Tell me I'm not dreaming (to good to be true) which stills sounds great. The self penned 'Come to me' is another high-light, and sounds quite soulful on this collection. 'Dynamite' is another I'd include in this group. The big hit from this CD was 'Do what you do' which I liked at the time, but not now (very MORish middle of the road ballad, sung well by Jermaine). All in all a nice body of work, but not an essential purchase.

Dynamite Jermaine!Nov 12, 2006 'Jermaine Jackson' is his Arista debut in 1984.It couldn't be more different then his Motown releases.Wheras R&B/Soul considerations were a high priority for Jermaine at Motown, pop considerations define 'Jermaine Jackson' and it starts off with four killer dance tunes-"Dynamite" (the big hit,the upbeat "Sweetest Sweetest" and "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" with brother Michael (the other hit on this album)and, yes if you please "Escape From The Planet Of The Ant Men"-now it's a very odd and slightly comic new wavish tune featuring all of the other Jackson brothers (particularly Tito) and despite what I hear from some I don't think it's stupid at all-just a fun pop novelty. So primarily 'Jermaine Jackson' is composed primarily of catchy, uptempo dance pop featuring every 80's trick in the book-fat bass synthesizer, electronic hand claps, surreal sound effects-the works."Come To Me (One Way Or Another)" and the phenomenal "Some Things Are Private" are no exception to that rule. The three most unusual tunes are the Whitney Houston duet "Take Good Care Of My Heart" which is more of an urban contemporary love song."Do What You Do" is the third hit from this album and is one of those 'quiet storm' classics you'll see on one too many R&B ballad compilations but it still sounds great. The final song is the most atypical-a very old fasioned piano ballad called "Oh Mother" which I assume was written for Katherine Jackson.I am very glad that after all these years of the original CD being out of print in the US and the import version being a much saught after collectors item that Sony Special Products reissued it in the US as part of it's budget line.'Jermaine Jackson' stands out as a very consistant album for it's time-for such a poppy album it contains absolutely no fillers. It's also very much a part of the Jacksonmania of the mid 1980's with the Victory Tour,'Thriller' selling up the wazoo and Janet coming into her own with albums like 'Dream Street' and later 'Control'.This was definately Jermaine's time to shine.
TELL ME I'M NOT DREAMING......Jun 23, 2006 Nuthing else need be said. This gem with brother Michael is a classic. Also Dynamite,Come To Me...,Do What You Do,and the track with Whitney. Buy this one AS SOON AS YOU CAN.A must have for Jermaine fans.
