Description:
One of the world’s most renowned Jazz guitarists, Lee Ritenour began his career backing up the likes of The Mamas and The Papas, Tony Bennett, and more. His website declares that he has over 3,000 studio sessions to his credit, with such groups as Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, and Dizzy Gillespie. Since 1976, he has been recording as a solo artist, with over 30 albums to his credit.
Lee Ritenour’s new DVD entitled "OverTime," is 2 1/2 hours long with 19 songs covering his music from the 70’s to the current. Musically, it covers 4 distinct areas starting out with acoustic jazz and moving into Brazilian music with Ivan Lins. The second half continues with Lee’s early music from the fusion days at The Baked Potato including the original band of Dave Grusin, Patrice Rushen, Anthony Jackson, Harvey Mason, Ernie Watts and Steve Foreman. The DVD concludes with many of his most popular songs from the 80’s to 2004 including songs from "WestBound" and "Twist of Motown." Two of the guest artists featured in this section are Chris Botti and Eric Marienthal. There are also 2 new songs on the DVD, one of which is a new single with vocalist Kenya Hathaway.
Musicians on "OverTime": Lee Ritenour, Dave Grusin, Patrice Rushen, Ivan Lins, Chris Botti, Ernie Watts, Harvey Mason, Eric Marienthal, Alex Acuna, Anthony Jackson, Melvin Davis, Oscar Seaton, Barnaby Finch, Kenya Hathaway, Grady Harrell, Dave Carpenter, and Steve Foreman.

Lee and His palsMay 04, 2008 Lee Ritenour is one of the greatest guitar players I have ever heard. This DVD brings together some of his good friends. The way the friends and Lee are in a circle brings out the best way of playing to each other also brings out the talent.
Any person who loves jazz. Will need to have this DVD.
a trip in the lee' s lifeApr 07, 2008 I hope that soon somebody remake this "masterpiece" in Blue ray format

A good how-to for other musicians wanting to do a DVDNov 25, 2007 It took me months to settle on which of the half dozen jazz musicians DVDs I would finally get to try out some updates to my audio gear. I am glad I settled on this one. I can always find something that could have been done a little better so I have yet to give out five stars for one of these concert DVDs, but this one comes darn close. When I am showing others who are newbies to the latest in audio/video gear just what this new medium is capable of, this is one of two concert DVDs I always use (the other being the Eagles farewell tour DVD). Lee says in one of the on-disc interviews that he chose to do the whole thing in a studio, with the musicians arranged as though they were just doing a practice session, instead of the typical face the audience stuff. And does it ever work! This arrangement allows the cameras much closer access, allows the studio techs more control over the acoustical environment, and allows the musicians to stay more tightly in sync. While some bands are as much light show as anything, certain music works well without all the frosting, and this is the case here. Fans of the Temptations will especially enjoy the well executed cover of Papa was a rolling stone. Probably my only gripes are that instead of a DTS 5.1 track we only get DD 5.1 and the video is 4:3 instead of 16:9, strange choices considering this was done in a studio, not mobile in some concert venue.
But if you like jazz, and Lee's work in particular, you will thoroughly enjoy this concert DVD.
