5The ProfessionalMar 08, 2010
Mathilda, a twelve-year old New York girl, is living an undesirable life among her half-family. Her father stores drugs for two-faced cop Norman Stansfield. Only her little brother keeps Mathilda from breaking apart. One day, Stansfield and his team take cruel revenge on her father for stretching the drugs a little, thus killing the whole family. Only Mathilda, who was out shopping, survives by finding shelter in Léon's apartment in the moment of highest need. Soon, she finds out about the strange neighbour's unusual profession, killing and desperately seeks his help in taking revenge for her little brother. Léon, who is completely unexperienced in fatherly tasks, and in friendships, does his best to keep Mathilda out of trouble unsuccessfully. Now, the conflict between a killer, who slowly discovers his abilities to live, to feel, to love and a corrupt police officer, who does anything in his might to get rid of an eye witness, arises to unmeasurable proportions - all for the sake of a little twelve-year old girl, who has nearly nothing to lose. Luc Besson's movie Léon "The Professional" gives a intense story which is maximized in potential by the casting of the movie done by Todd Thaler. Every aspect of the movie delivers and makes an impressive overall package. A gripping story with well-crafted characters.

5Blu ray specialFeb 17, 2010
One of my all time favorite movies. I'm glad I finally got it on blu ray at this price.

5Great Film. Nice Transfer. Best PQ I've ever seen for this film.Feb 17, 2010
This is an excellent film that is about a man finding a reason to live. Don't listen to the morons who say this movie is terrible. I guess smart films are only made for smart people. If you hate this movie, then go watch Pink Panther 2 or Transformers 2. Something that doesn't require a modicum of thinking. Jean Reno does a terrific job as Leon, the hitman with a heart of gold who finds a reason to live when he shelters Matilda [Natalie Portman in her best role still] after her whole family is slaughtered by a crooked cop [Gary Oldman is amazing in that role]. He begins to teach her the skills of his trade and a bond forms that changes both of them forever. That is what films are all about...change. Evolving story and evolving characters. This film does both. I wish Luc Besson would go back to making films like this...more personal stories without the dumbing-down. Lately he makes terrible dreck like the Transporter films. Anyways, long-story short...great film with great performances and a beautiful ending. If you need evidence that I know of what I speak of, look at my grammar and then look at the people who post negative reviews. It does show differences in intelligence.

Anyways, this Blu-Ray transfer is the sharpest and clearest I've ever seen this movie. Textures are more noticeable and so are facial features in closeups. The blacks are stable throughout. Colors look nice too. Maybe not reference quality, but definitely several steps above any previously released version. I've been watching the DVD version for years and this Blu-Ray smacked me in the face immediately. For a smaller budgeted movie, excellent video quality.

1The dumbest "action movie" everFeb 14, 2010
I won't ever understand how this movie ever became "the greatest" or how someone thought of this as a "love story" when clearly there was little action and the only love story was between an old man and a child.

skip this movie, watch Terminator 2. I can't imagine how adding on to this film's theatrical release will change my mind on it. Skip it don't rent it. get a better movie (which ould be ANY movie). to watch this movie would be wasting your time. I would rather suffer through another quadruple bypass then watch this movie again. I would rather regrow my wisdom teeth and let the dentest pull them out again then to watch this movie again

If i haven't ade myself clear, DON'T BUY/RENT?SEE this movie
