Buy Abba InsteadJan 08, 2009 I can't believe that there are people who can rate this CD 5 stars. Pierce Brosnan's awful singing alone drags this cd down to at best a 3. It's painful to watch him try to sing in the movie and equally painful on this CD. I rated it a 3 because the women were able to carry it off and in the movie Merle Streep and Amanda Seyfried did a great job in both the acting and singing department. Why these men, esp Brosnan, were cast in this movie when they clearly have no voices beats me. My guess is that someone owed Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth favors. There is no other explanation. For my money, the ABBA box set Thanks for the Music is a much better purchase. That box set is one of the better engineered of the ABBA CDs and it shows the theatrical nature of many of the ABBA songs and some of the best aren't even in this movie. BUT, rest assured that all of the movie songs are on the box set and you don't have to skip over SOS and When All Is Said And Done to get through it.
These People Can't Sing!Jan 07, 2009 Don't get me wrong. The movie is wonderful. The music is wonderful. And the ACTORS (yes, they are actors, not singers!) put so much heart and energy into their musical performances that their lack of singing ability is not too distracting while watching the movie. But, just to listen to a soundtrack? Save yourself some disappointment and get "ABBA Gold," instead!
WonderfulJan 07, 2009 If you loved the movie then this CD is a wonderful addition to any music selection. I actually gave this CD to my 86 year old grandmother for Christmas. Believe it or not but she won't take the thing out of her car cd player. She listens to it everywhere she goes. Highly suggest anyone who loves musicals to purchase this. Age makes no difference as I have pointed out here.
Mamma Mia!Jan 06, 2009 Wonderful CD if you loved the musical or the movie; Meryl Streep is a particularly fine singer, and all the tracks carry the easy gaiety of the show. A clarification (that I was looking for when purchasing) is that these are indeed the songs from the show/movie itself, NOT the original ABBA songs (not to be missed either).
4 stars ?Jan 06, 2009 Splendid except for the fact that it did not contain "Thank you for the music"
