Beware, Navigon is out of business!Nov 11, 2009 I bought my Navigon a little over a year ago. It's performance has been mixed, in line with much of the reviews here, but I've generally been happy with it.
However, I can unequivocally state that you should NOT buy this product. Navigon has abruptly left the North American market, leaving customers, even those who purchased a device and map updates within the year, almost completely without support. If you buy one of these, you're buying a dead device with no hope of updates.
Beware of this productNov 09, 2009 Unfortunately Navigon seems to have gone out of business in the USA. The unit I bought had maps from 2008. I assumed that an upgrade to current maps would be included, but it was not. You can purchase a one-shot upgrade or a two year upgrade contract, but they are quite pricey. I was shocked that Amazon sells this unit without any warning that the maps are about a year and a half old and that a current upgrade is not included with a "new" unit.
The unit itself is fine - I had no trouble with it at all except where I was driving on a new freeway that it new nothing about. It recovered quickly when I got to a road it new about.
ExcellentNov 08, 2009 I ordered two Navigon 2200T units. They were sent out right away. We are very happy with Navigon. Not all the bells and whistles but no extra fees makes this unit tops in my book. Imagine if you bought a sandwich but then you had to pay an extra fee to eat it.
Don't like the design and support is awfulNov 03, 2009 Partly because I'm used to a Garmin menu system, I never really got the hang of this device. I found some things so difficult as to prohibit me from doing them. For example, searching for a particular point of interest was impossible if you didn't know how Navigon had classified it. You can't just search for the name of the place. Try searching for "Texas Motor Speedway" and you'll see what I mean.
But service is what really got me irritated. My unit's battery would only power the unit for a half hour or so. Customer support has no phone number, and support is only by email. They acknowledged my problem and sent me a form to fill out so they would send me a return authorization and instructions. I completed it and returned it and spent the next two months following up to ask them where my RMA was. Two emails from corporate headquarters were answered with "Sorry. We'll pass this on to our service department." One email from the service department was answered with "We're busy and we'll get to you later."
just terribleOct 13, 2009 got this Navigon 2200T gps and cut it on. plug it up to my computer and software failure pop right up. went through the reset steps and nothing work. they say u have 30 days return warrenty. but make sur u read that its at your own expense to ship it back which cost me 12.oo dollars. lost 12.oo dollars and dont even have a gps. what is the world coming to.
