Inconsistent- not durableMar 21, 2010 I bought this to replace a Breadman that is no longer made. I liked that machine (I had two of them) but the breadpan eventually leaks and you can't get a replacement for less than the cost of a whole new machine. That's why I chose this Panasonic machine- based mainly on reviews of this page. My first few loaves were not good, so I had to refine my old habits from the Breadman. Subsequent loaves were usually acceptable, but after a year and a half the motor won't knead the dough fully. The motor sounds (and smells) like it's malfunctioning. My last three loaves were disasters. For the money- this is not a durable and acceptable product.
Consistently goodMar 21, 2010 We had one of these 10 years ago and had to get rid of it to move internationally. Just gotten this one and nothing has changed -- consistently good quality. Love it.
Good machineMar 16, 2010 I had an old Zojirushi machine that finally died after 15 years. A new one cost $215 so I looked at other options. This machine looked best when I had read many reviews. The one odd thing is that in my old machine, I put in all the ingredients at once. With this machine, there is a little round hole on the top of the lid that you put the dry yeast in and after the pan has warmed the other ingredients (this takes about 45-60 minutes), the machine bangs loudly three times to dispense all the yeast into the pan. I was startled the first time it happened and am not sure I'd make bread during the night (for morning eating) with this noise.
The cycle digital readout is a bit small and not very intuitive, but works fine once you get the hang of it.
Otherwise it's a great machine.

Bread comes out perfectMar 16, 2010 Very easy to understand, very easy to use, and very easy to clean.
Bread comes out perfect. Fairly quiet in operation. The mid-sized loaf is good sized for a couple.
Plenty of options available (that I haven't tried yet).
So far so goodMar 14, 2010 I've only had my new bread maker a month. Bought it based on the good reviews. I do not add the ingredients as listed by the manufacture, as it tends to blow the flour all over the interior and it settles on the heating elements creating a smokey smell. I put wet ingredients in first as I have in the past with other bread makers - and there is no difference in the end results. The yeast dispenser could have been omitted as it gunks up and is a pain to clean. I would rather have seen a small window on top so I could see how the kneading process is going without having to open the lid. In a few of my favorite old recipes - I have had to make adjustments to the amount of yeast so as to have the desired results. The Panasonic is not nearly as forgiving as other machines I have owned. Quite frankly - I have an 11 year old Oster bread machine that had never failed. Dump in your ingredients and forget it - with always perfect results. I bought this new Panasonic because of the age of my Oster. I wonder which one will actually die first? . . .
