Very responsive comfortable controller, few quirksNov 06, 2009 This is a great wireless controller, with excellent range though I use it only about 10 feet from the console. Logitech runs promotions every once in a while and you can get it for about half this price during such runs, though shipping is extra.
Pros:
1. It's wireless! Wired controllers are just too cumbersome to set up. I play on a whim much more often now.
2. Very comfortable grip
3. Feels sturdy/solid, especially the joystick buttons, which were my main concern
4. Looks great on my coffee table
5. Good range, though I use it only ~10 feet away. Haven't noticed any lag (most of my games are racing)
Cons:
1. Hate the cut-plastic packaging; one-time inconvenience though
2. Could not find any instructions on how to pair, though it was easy to figure out; press the paring button on the console-plug first and then the one on the controller
3. When you turn on the PS2, the console plugs have a green light that keeps blinking till you press a button on their paired controllers. They NEVER stop blinking till you do so and this happens each time the PS2 is turned on. Can get annoying when all you're doing is playing a DVD, or if you have 2 controllers and you're playing a 1-P game (the second plug keeps blinking)
4. Vibration feedback considerably weak compared to the original wired Sony controller - small price for the convenience, but a price nevertheless
5. No rubber feet to keep scratches off the shiny matte finish
6. Priced high given its for a console you get so cheap today - I could get myself to buy it (2 of them) only when it was half its usual price on a promotion
Better than the Sony Dual ShockOct 30, 2009 I have always had problems playing shooting games on the PS2 as in I always felt the analogs were never as good as they should be. Well that changed when I got my Logitech controller a few years back. Since then I am enjoying games like Killzone and SOCOM 3 with excellent accuracy.
This is essentially the greatest controller available for the PS2 system. Anything I have ever owned that has been made by Logitech has been nothing short of the highest quality. These controllers really are better than Sony's Dual Shock and Force 2 Wireless controllers. Its pretty bad when a 3rd party manufacturer can make a better product than the actual company that makes the system. Do yourself a favor as I did a few years back and get this controller for it is second to none.
Beautiful Controller Glad I PurchasedOct 29, 2009 This is a stunning controller. The handle and feeling of this controller is heaven. The design looks so up-to-date and cool. The blue lighting effects are a big plus. I have had this product for almost 1 year and I have never replaced the battery. And I am running regular Costco batteries! The curvy design makes it comfortable and the slight rubber finish makes it a good grip and not to rubbery. I bought 2 controllers and they never intercept. They are PERFECT controllers. Thank you logitech, you never let me down.
Beats the originalOct 16, 2009 Like most of the other reviewers pointed it out, this wireless force feeedback controller by Logitech for the Sony PlayStation 2 gaming console outperforms both the competition and the original controller that came with the system in every aspect. Even though it's wireless, no noticeable input lag is present. Reception range is good and battery life is long despite the vibration function. Build quality is superior to any 3rd party controller and is up to par -if not better than- with Sony.
When compared to it's older cousin, the Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 for the PC, which is the exact same form factor controller with the exact same functions built into it, Cordless Action is a much more streamlined, overall more refined and smoother design. Weight has been reduced too, does not strain during long gaming sessions in any way. Also, Logitech has learned from it's mistake and built into the controller stronger vibration motors. Rumblepad's was noticeably weaker.
Compared to the Sony DualShock 2, it's somewhat bigger and heavier but in no dramatic way. You'll get used to it in no time. It's single problem for some people (including me) is that the D-pad section is not separated like the DualShock 2 but has a single, big hat switch style pad much like the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller. It's in no way a severe handicap but sometimes can get in the way.
Installation is a breeze. Just insert the batteries that come with it into the controller, plug the receiver into the PS2's controller port and play.
There are some minor cosmetic changes with the latest revision by the way. First, the Logitech badge has a black background instead of blue. Also the triangle-square-cross-circle buttons have no longer colors, all are white painted on top of the black background and their depiction style is different, not a copy of DualShock2. In my opinion Logitech implemented these changes in order to avoid a lawsuit with Sony. While monotone buttons may upset some, they do look like the unique shapes and you'll know which you're pressing. Also if you play in the dark like me, you won't even notice. The blue tinted transparent analog stick bearers still exist and they do look cool enough.
Even though it has some changes and the picture is outdated, overall it's still a 100% recommended investment to your PlayStation 2 console.
