Great for any time of the year!Nov 16, 2009 I guess this CD is intended for Christmas, but only a couple of songs are Christmas-specific, and overall the songs are so lovely and relaxing, that I think it's great to listen to ANY time of the year.
yo yo ma has sold outNov 08, 2009 it's sad to see someone as talented as yo yo ma pander to such crass musical tastes. this album is catchy, but it ends up in the dustbin along with other annoying christmas music. clearly it was done for commercial purposes; this cd has very little artistic value.
Couldn't be betterOct 26, 2009 This is simply a brilliant piece of work. The music is lively and bright and beautiful. Each artist who plays with Yo-yo Ma is in top form and each lends their own artistic genius. The music is uplifting and at the same time peaceful. Its worth the price just to hear Yo-yo Ma and Paquito D'Rivera play together but when you add this rendition of the Wexford Carol to the rest, you have perfection.
A Christmas album for people who are sick of ChristmasSep 13, 2009 Sometimes, when a classical artist decides to branch out into other forms of music, the result is laughable -- perfect chops but no soul. Yo-Yo Ma has managed to beat that result several times, and this disc is one of them. He is the sort of musician who notes artistic worth even if the player didn't graduate from Julliard, and chose a great mix from his acquaintances outside the concert-hall world. Who else would even know Jake Shimabukuro, a uke player who takes his tiny instrument waaay beyond beach-party noodling? If you're sick of the pathetic carnival of modern Christmas, play the Wexford Carol some December evening when you're alone. Light a candle and let Alison Krauss remind you what Christmas meant before it was ravaged. And sometime in the middle of July, play the Natalie MacMaster cut on the car stereo, top volume, windows down. You don't need sub-bass for music to transport you away from your cares. This is a fabulous album that you will enjoy all year, and treasure in December.
Songs of Joy and Peace Yo Yo Ma CDAug 03, 2009 CD is WONDERFUL. A lot of it is Christmas music but I love to listen to it any time. I was amazed at all the artists he performed with. I have had the honor of seeing him perform. What an incredible artist and what an incredible man.
