3not everything it should have beenNov 04, 2009
The gameplay itself is great and that's the most important part. The story is the same story that you've always had with a few exceptions (and not in a good way). I don't want to say any spoilers so I'm keeping it basic. The breaking part of this game is the voice acting and the characters. They really suck the life out of this game. It's really hard to enjoy a game when you want to kill the people you are taking along with you. Turning off the voice during battle became necessary after a while and I've never had to do this on any game I've played. There are a couple of exceptions and I could have gotten by with just going along with these characters but I like to level all my characters and see their abilities and how they play. Passed those things, it is fun to play. Very much like SO3. There is a PS3 port coming in January I think. It is supposed to have more extras and be more polished. I think that might be worth checking out if you aren't stuck with the XBOX.

1wait for ps3 versionSep 25, 2009
with the announced Playstation 3 international version it's hard to recommend the 360 version since the dubbing will ultimately make your ears bleed till you die where as the upcoming ( February 9th, 2010 ) version for ps3 will most likely have the Japanese voice track ( international version ) so not only can you enjoy this great game but have voices that won't literally kill you

The condition received is excellent. Game came with 3 disks in great condition. Overall experience of the game is excellent. Story and gameplay is off the hook! I recommend this game to anyone into action rpg's. The seller is prompt and product is in excellent condition. Thanks!

Pros: Many beautifully rendered elf girls run around a primitive planet finding aliens and battling giant crabs with swords (that is, the elf girls have swords; not the crabs) with very little exploration of stars or oceans involved. Sometimes you walk around the edge of an ocean or beneath the stars, but never IN the ocean or AMONG the stars.

If you like your futuristic sci-fi RPGs involving spacefaring races and laser guns to involve land-based sword battles and chainmail armor sleeves, "Star Ocean: The Last Hope" is the game for you! That's because you can't shoot the giant insects with your gun, you see. Giant insects have +20 to their saving throw versus Bullets & Lasers.

Also, you fight space lizardkangaroos who look like they were rendered on a Sega Genesis before going back in time and being superawesome.

Might I recommend "Fallout 3" as a solid futuristic sci-fi RPG involving swords and laser guns and suggest avoiding "Too Human" as a not-so-good futuristic sci-fi RPG involving swords and laser guns?

5Loved, loved, loved it!Jul 19, 2009
My husband and I have played all the Star Ocean games, and are huge fans. The Last Hope did not disappoint. I've heard rumors that this might be the last one, and I sure hope that is not true.

This review will be short, because I'll just be repeating what others have said. Graphics are stunning .. simply gorgeous. Story was great, characters are fabulous (didn't like Myuria much, but that's life, right?), and the gameplay was for us, over 250 hours.

If I could have rated this game 4 1/2 stars though, I would have for the CD changing factor. The trips between Nox Obscuris and Roak were in the hundreds, and changing the CD every time really sucked. I understand the multiple CD concept for such a huge game, but it was poorly organized between those two planets.

Anyway, the game was everything we expected from a Star Ocean game, and more. Bring on more ... please!
