3My Fiance Is Currently Running A Goonies Motion Picture Score Release CampaignMar 09, 2007
If you're wanting the original filmscore music of the talented Dave Grusin that is heard and enjoyed in the actual film by thousands, you may be interested in knowing that my fiance, Chris is currently in contact with Varese Sarabande Records about releasing the much-coveted music to fans for the first time.Varese recently released Grusin's own Lucas score, and before that, the much- desired Ghostbusters. Like so many of you, Chris has wanted the score since he was very young, and now in his twenties, he is trying to do something about seeing that you all (not to mention himself) finally receive what is deserved. We've been denied for too long!!

This soundtrack collection of pop songs is fine for nostalgia reasons, but if you want the score music, (not the re- orchestrated music from the over-rated Best Of Adventure CD)you need to sign Chris'petition, which is on [...] has a message board, on which he has been posting all of his progress thus far being made with Varese Sarabande's Soundtrack Club Dept.According to Varese, they are very interested in offering the score, but need ample proof that it will sell. Chris has already submitted many of these disgruntled reviews to them, and according to Varese, their office has been flooded lately with requests via email/telephone.

There is contact information for Varese on their site, or through Chris' posting on thegoonies.org, under the miscellaneous tab. The post is called, "Hoping To Start Things Up".You can also access these links through www.grusin.net (The Dave Grusin Archive)through their Goonies page as well.

If you want Dave Grusin's beautiful, rich score as it was intended to be heard, please support the cause.Sign the petition, contact Varese Sarabande.Thank you!

4...* Goonies Never Say Die *...Jun 04, 2006
"The Goonies" pop soundtrack capures the fun-loving decade of the '80s and listening to these songs makes various scenes from the movie come to mind in vivid detail. My favorite track off the CD is probably REO Speedwagon's "Wherever You're Goin' (It's Alright)". I also quite like Philip Bailey's "Love Is Alive" because that song played during the part in the movie where Troy catapults Brand off the side of the cliff in that little girl's, pink, training bike. Classic! Who could forget Cyndi Lauper's "The Goonies 'R Good Enough" track; not me. I love this song as well, and it brings back some incredible memories of the '80s and from this movie specifically.

NOW.. to address the film score controversy.. There is some debate to whether or not the entire film score was ever released the UNITED STATES. Many say it was simply a bootleg that got around in small circles. (Go to soundtrack.com to learn more about the film score.) That said, I DO know, however, that the film score WAS recorded as a 'world premier recording' on the CD, "The Best Of Adventure". I have this cd, and the Goonies score on it is, quite simply, AMAZING! I'm not kidding, when I played it for the first time, I actually teared up. So nostalgic and beautiful. The recording on this CD is almost 19 minutes long; it was recorded by the City of Prague Philharmonic. This is the ONLY legitimate cd that the entire Goonies film score was ever released on; the booklet in this CD, "Best of Adventure" also confirms that the recording is a 'world premier' for the Dave Grusin Goonies film score.

There are bootlegs being circulated with The Goonies film score on it on eBay. Some of these pirated CD's have so called 'previously unreleased' tracks from the film. These eBay sellers blatantly lie and trick and try to pass these cd's off as original 'imports' from Japan etc. Some people will believe anything, so I am here to set the record straight and tell you the truth. I have even found that one eBay seller from California has gone as far as changing his user ID three times to try to get away with selling a slick looking bootleg. This particular pirated CD is a 2 'gold' CD Goonies Dave Grusin film score that also has a so called gold coin prop replica and two bumper sticker decals along with the pirated music. I am keeping a record of what he has been up to. As an AVID official Goonies collector, eBay seller and also a professional Graphic Designer, I hate to see people getting ripped off by greedy liars who know Photoshop too well and who visit Knikos too often. I could go on about exactly how these bootlegs were constructed and believe me I could whip up an exact repliac within a day.. yup, even down to the printed on gold discs, 'high quality' decals, 'unreleased tracks', photo booklet and the gold coin replica. Anyways, consider this information as a buyer beware, word to the wise, warning. All cd's other than Best of Adventure with The Goonies film score are pirated. So there is no confusion, there IS a legitimate Japanese POP soundtrack import, which you can see from the Amazon picture above, but there is NO such thing as a Japanese film score CD or any other film score CD other than "Best Of Adventure".

Who knows if the entire score will ever officially be released in the USA as well, but, in my opinion, to have found the "Best Of Adventure" cd is even better than finding One Eyed Willie's rich stuff. While I think of it, who knows whether Warner Brothers will FINALLY let Richard Donner and Steven Spielberg make an amazing sequal to The Goonies. All of the stars are up for it as well, but NOOO, Warner Brothers had to go and screw it up! (Okay, enough stealing Mouth's lines). haha.

I really feel that, in order to get the film score released officially in the USA, and also in order to get the sequal made (before everybody starts looking like One Eyed Willie) is THE PEOPLE. The people like us who love this movie and who dream BIG. Like Mikey said, it's OUR time down here; so start writing, Warner Brothers, people; let your voices be heard. It's our time.. Never Say Die.

1Film Scores going the way of the dinosaurs!!!!May 21, 2006
I am film score buff, and this is the thing about soundtracks that gripes me the most. To me the film score is what gives the film its soul, its personality. I hate when I have gone to see a movie and just absolutely fallen in love with the score, then go to buy the soundtrack only to find out that it is a blasted soundtrack album of pop songs that weren't even in the movie to begin with!!! There are so many beautiful scores out there that haven't even had a soundtrack release to speak of.

3only 3 stars......o.k.songs, not enough film score !!!!!!!Mar 12, 2006
i MUST agree with all of you. they really should have added much more of the film score to this cd. it is pathetic!
as far as the pop songs go, the worst of the lot is cyndi lauper's "what a thrill", a headache inducing, noise pollution of a song. what a waste, as i call it!!
"save the night" by joseph williams provides guitar driven and bouncy pop rythms to the soul catching quiet sound of "she's so good to me" by the late luther vandross,[sadly one of his few least known AND heard songs by him.]
"14k" by teena marie, another non heard of gem contains one of her better vocal singing in her career. her voice melding to the rock beats, blending seamlessly together making it one of the better tracks here.
R.E.O. speedwagon's "wherever your goin', it's alright" is also a guitar driven piece of rock and roll.
the bangles "i got nothing", the fastest song on the album, is a savory harmonistic little pop song.
philip bailey lends his talents to a well produced written track as good as his other well known hits. another treasure by him.
my least favorite is "8 arms 2 hold u" by the goon squad.
a song cut from the film involving the octopus sequence, also edited.
but i gotta tell ya'.......I WOULD RATHER OWN THE FILM SCORE!!
THESE ROCK SONGS ARE DISPOSABLE AND WORTHLESS COMPARED TO THE FILM SCORE!!! PLEASE RELEASE DAVE GRUSIN'S MUSIC!!!!!!!!
