DisappointedMar 09, 2010 I was really happy with "Your Pregnancy: Week by Week" and I was absolutely disappointed with "Your Baby's First Year". I completely stopped reading when the book actually suggested putting my newborn in a drawer to sleep as an alternative until his nursery is ready. My husband was reading the book and caught this passage, and read it aloud to me. I was so stunned by what he said I thought he was joking at first. I may be a first time parent, but I know enough not to put my baby in a drawer to sleep. Just the beginning of some of the strange advice in this book.
ehhhFeb 26, 2010 This book was given to me as a gift. I really loved reading the week by week mayo clinic guide during my pregnancy and thought I would enjoy reading this as well. Well... it really feels like they have included some information in there just to take up space. For example one of the weeks list different baby equipment like car seat, swing, ect... and then goes into an in-depth detailed explanation, just in case you don't know what a baby swing is.
Really all I wanted was a book that had some basic information on milestones and age appropriate activities. If I wasn't sure what a baby swing was I would look it up.
It is GOOD in that it explains how to do baby massage and does give you age appropriate activities and of course includes milestones. Overall this is an ok book but you can probably find something a little better, something better organized and actually up to date.

Not worth the moneyFeb 03, 2010 The positives: I like the developmentally appropriate games given each week. It's not always easy to know what to do with a young baby and there are a lot of fun ideas included. There is a lot of information packed into the book, and while it's not always in the best place on the time line it is easy enough to find everything in the very comprehensive index.
The negatives: The intact penis care advice is dangerously wrong! So are the recommendations about feeding and weening. My dr did advise to start solids with my 4 month old, but he is sitting up and trying to snatch food from our plates already, these are not milestones that are typical at 4 months. The fact that the weeks and months don't line up just drives me NUTS! Everything is 2 weeks off and I went back to see where they went wrong initally. Evidently a baby is only 3 months old for two weeks! The inability to count on the part of the author, the editor and everyone else who looked at this book before it went to press is just ridiculous!
There are better books out there and better free resources online. I won't be recommending this one.
Your Baby's First Year: Week By Week (Your Pregnancy Series), Second EditionOct 27, 2009 The book is what it says. We received it as a gift after our first child and liked it so much we gave it to my sister after her first child.
Excellent!Sep 21, 2009 As a first time parent of twins, I absolutely love this book. It was recommended to me by a friend and now I recommend it to my other friends!
